Commitment to sustainability

Looking to the future

We are putting all our energy into sustainable development

We have a duty and desire to make a mark on the future of energy. A lasting mark, one which will help sustainable solutions replace carbon footprints and contribute to building a more balanced world in every way.

A broad goal and a commitment to the future

We are committed to showing the way forward so that clean energy can power all of your projects, as well as the grand project which unites all of society: to make sure our actions guarantee a better future for all.

By promoting clean energy today we ensure a fairer tomorrow

This is why we are doing more and more each day to make less impact on the environment and make a better impact on society as a whole, through innovation, responsibility and commitment. An extensive commitment, not only to create greener energy, but also to contribute to balanced and equitable economic development for all people.

We are putting all our energy into these goals and taking concrete action. Find out more about how we are facing the future.

We support the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals

The targets which show us the path to the future

We are committed to the 2030 Agenda, which was approved by the United Nations in 2015 and sets out the priority goals we must strive for in order to ensure the sustainability of our planet and a better future for all humanity. This United Nations initiative involves governments and institutions as well as public and private companies and aims to stimulate economic growth, combat climate change and protect the environment.

It is organised into 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets for the international community as a whole to work together to achieve.

Our contribution to advancing the 2030 Agenda

We are committed to 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and are taking concrete action to meet each one:

  • Develop and implement a company Energy Transition Plan, within the framework of our overall sustainability strategy
  • Establish medium- and long-term transition indicators and goals
  • Create the Genesal Energy Faculty of Energy Transition in conjunction with USC
  • Diversify energy generation technologies:
    • Photovoltaic facades and roofs
    • Reuse energy generated in the test bench
  • Create our own energy management system
  • Calculate our corporate carbon footprint, based on our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, in collaboration with USC’s GI-2058 group
  • Implement improvements to help us reduce our CF
  • Improve our CF inventories
  • Develop a methodology for calculating our Scope 3 emissions
  • Innovate and promote technological development as part of our business culture: NEXTFACTORY, our largest R&D&I project
  • Create an in-house technology centre: CETED
  • Obtain UNE 166002 certification in R&D&I Management Systems
  • Energy as a Service
  • Develop health and safety management systems in all our facilities which comply with ISO 45001
  • Ensure our Occupational Health and Safety Indicators are better than the industry average
  • Effectively manage the COVID-19 health emergency
  • Keep our headquarters in Galicia, thereby facilitating the creation of decent jobs in the community
  • Boost the local economy through our membership of various associations (ASEB, VIRATEC; ASIME, etc.)
  • Implement the principles of the ILO Global Jobs Pact
  • Practice non-discrimination in our hiring, pay, benefits, training and promotion schemes

Getting closer to zero impact

In our mission to reduce our carbon footprint we have obtained a number of certifications which bring us closer to meeting major targets.

During 2020 we have reduced

64%
Water discharged into the sewage network.
96%
Paper/cardboard waste
94%
Plastic waste
85%
Scrap

Carbon footprint calculation certification

Reflecting our commitment to SDG 13, on Climate Action, we have obtained our carbon footprint calculation certification.

One of the key aims of our energy policy is to help mitigate climate change by reducing our GHG emissions, which requires establishing a long-term strategy focused on clear and well-defined objectives. This is where carbon footprint calculation comes into play. It involves measuring the total quantity of greenhouse gases emitted, both directly and indirectly, by an organisation in the course of its activities, and then using that data as a basic reference point for the development of emissions reduction plans.

We have been committed to calculating our CF since 2019. So far we have managed to measure our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and are collecting the information necessary to be able to measure our Scope 3 emissions in line with our long-term sustainability strategy.

ISO 14001

We are certified in Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), which we use to systematise how we process the aspects of our activities which affect the environment.

This standard promotes the implementation of environmental protection and pollution prevention practices in parallel with socioeconomic development.
